Impact Alumni – Jesse Ogabu hosts Leadership Conference

Stakeholders and industry experts in the education and relevant sectors have said that, “…absence of necessary skills among graduates of higher institution is a major cause of unemployment in Nigeria”. The experts said this while speaking at the recently concluded Education Nexus Industry Project (ENIPRO) Career Summit held at the J.F. Ade Ajayi Auditorium, University of Lagos (UNILAG) organised and convened by Jesse Ogabu.

The event which held on September 1st, was the maiden edition of the summit, sought to bridge the gap between the industry and classroom. Speaking during the event – Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of W-A Vocational Education -Wave, Misan Rewane, emphasized the need for students to get relevant skills before their graduation in other to make sure that they are fit for the industry. She added that students must make maximal use of online learning, especially those relevant to their field of endeavours.

Reiterating Rewane’s point, CEO of EduBridge Academy – Oladosu Babatunde, enjoined students to also take up leadership positions as well as offer themselves as interns in firms related to their field of study so as to garner relevant knowledge. Babatunde explained that there was no “real world” anywhere and students therefore needed to act like they were in the future. He also encouraged students to develop themselves by learning basic computer skills, such as use of Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, Excel, and Corel draw, as an added advantage.

Other speakers at the summit included the Executive Director of LeapAfrica, Femi Taiwo; COO of Impact Your World Leadership Initiative, Joseph Baiyekusi; Mrs Ada Usifo, HR and Career Consultant, InternBank ; Mrs Christine Baiyekusi, Executive Director Beth-Ktizo Life Academy; and Manager at PwC, Mrs Tinuke Bosun-Okusaga, who shared their success stories during the plenary session.
