ELO Career Empowerment Workshop

Ebunoluwa Lydia Odumakinde Foundation recently held her annual career empowerment scheme themed “Pursuing Academic Excellence” for the 100 students (SS1-SS3) who were awarded scholarships in November 2018. The Career empowerment scheme was held on the 25th & 26th of January, 2019 at St. Peters Anglican Church in Ijare. Starting the event on the 25th of January, a meeting was held with the Counsellors in Ijare who gave reports of how the students have been doing academically and new decisions were taken to change the dynamics of the Scholarship Programme. Kicking off at 11am the next day, the 1st speaker Engr Sola Aina spoke on Cultivating Excellent Habits and the 2nd Speaker who is also the Local Government Chairman, Engr. Alex Oladimeji, spoke on How to excel academically. The students listened with rapt attention and wrote down notes where needed. Spicing up the event, the Chief’s of Ijare community and emissaries from the king attended the program where they marveled and commended ELO foundation for the wonderful strides the foundation has taken to improve education in Ijare. Following this, the students were divided into breakout groups based on their chosen career inclinations and classes. The students were then counseled on steps to take in their careers such as schools choices, subject combinations in JAMB amongst other topics. The students were finally served lunch and a separate One-on-One counselling session was held for the students who needed it. The event came to a close at 4pm. It was an enlightening experience for the students who discovered and re-discovered themselves.
