Firstly, I really want to appreciate the President, Vice-President, COO and other officials and facilitators who contributed to the success of the conference. To be sincere, though I have attended ILA before but this conference was spectacular. I’m still feeling the impact of the conference in my life.
During the course of the conference, I have learnt to become a better person than I was, I have inculcated better leadership skills, I now value myself more than before because I now see myself as a positive change agent. I now understand better the aims and objectives of the club, as well as my duties. I use to think I’m over burden with some other activities which may affect my academic, but through the course of the conference, I now understand that all have to do with planning, hearing how people had difficult tasks to execute and yet still achieve the best academically increased my zeal not only to achieve the best but to be the best.
I have also meant to understand that one will only get in life what he demand for. The conference helped bring the executives together and has created a difference in the way they relate with one another. Lastly, I will like to say that the conference has created a great experience, memory and has enlightened me educationally, morally, intellectually and so on. I never regret the first day I collected a form to join ILC. I will once again like to appreciate the founder of IYWLI, I’m proud to be part of this.
Thank you.
Adeyanju Yusuf,
I would like to give all thanks and praise to God Almighty first and foremost for availing me the opportunity to be part of a script which has come to be marked by time and will also make a mark in time, to be part of the success of a noble vision materialising even from its cradle, for a platform that enlivens The Maker’s purpose for man to administer properly the rest of creation, for that is what leaders really are. ILC and in extension IYWLI breeds hope for today and the future. Much kudos is given to the brains behind the scene.
It was four days but as though it were four decades because as J.B would say, “you are 10years already ahead of your peers by being here”. LTC 2017 was indeed a game changer for me. I wasn’t expecting as much when I left school but I was wowed even from the very first night. The three buckets to be filled for which the conference was setup was truly filled if not even overfilled. It was not readily in my imagination that I could learn with such quality and convenience but that was the reality of the conference. The standard was just right. I remember the introductory session on the night of arrival at the resort when we were to get to know each other and share our reasons for attending the conference, mine was that “I came to change my own Narrative so I could change the narrative of my world and that I wanted to experience up-close what the different bands that make up light i.e. share moments with the different colours of light from the different tribal and ethnic orientations without the usual bias and prejudice. I have always wanted to be in the midst of great minds where colour, status or creed is effaced and are united in a common cause. The LTC made that a reality and I thank IYWLI for that priceless gift. From the very first lesson on temperaments all through till the dinner was an avenue for me to learn, unlearn and re-learn. I didn’t understand well the structure of ILC and also didn’t have much enthusiasm for the vision of ILC and IYWLI but these visions have become my own even during the conference.
The conference has challenged me as a person and as an executive member of ILC UNILAG to take those steps to make my immediate world a better place in the best way that I can. Now I have a burning desire to make positive impact by rendering selfless service and building other leaders who will also carry the vision. One of the things I learnt at the conference was that Nigeria, Africa is short of visionary leaders hence the need to create more of such leaders than followers and then our narrative will truly change for the better. The conference has offered me the opportunity to meet true role models in the persons of Mr Joseph Baiyekusi, The IYWLI team and especially Engr. Akin Odumakinde who has inspired me with his words and shown me that I can replicate the vision even better. Thank You ILC, thank You IYWLI, thank you Engr. Akin, thank you JB, thank you Mr Seyi and thank you all participants for changing my narrative and I say on behalf of us all that ‘We will make the world a better place against all odds at every level of leadership position we find ourselves, starting here, starting now. We will leave behind footprints of lasting IMPACT in our immediate world’. The impact has begun and the world will reckon with us.OGUNDELE, AFOLABI AKOLADE.
Asst. Director, Projects and Operations, ILC UNILAG.Afolabi Ogundele,
I am Aribisala Oluwafunmilola a 300 level student from the department of Business Administration in The University of Lagos. I am the Assistant Secretary General of The Impact Leaders Club, University of Lagos Chapter.
I want to thank Mr. and Mrs. Engineer Akin Odumakinde and everybody who constitutes the Impact Your World Leadership Initiative team for making this year’s Impact Leadership Academy a success. I am really grateful to the team for taking their time to look for eloquent and knowledgeable speakers to talk to us on various topics that touched my life.
The lecture that got me thinking day in-day out after I listened to it was; Academics- Achieving Excellence & Honors by Mr. Godwin Benson. I felt the lecture was meant for me, Mr. Benson said I should have a first class mind to everything I do. He taught me that success is a thing of the mind, I kept thinking about this statement. I realized all my fears, worries and so called monsters are all in my head. I now know that once I believe I can do it and I tell my mind that I can, then I will achieve it. Although my temperaments say I am a 100% introvert but the thing is when I tell people they just laugh at me and say; Funmi you are not an introvert at all and I wonder why-the one thing that makes me believe I am an introvert is my fear for public speaking.
I have a huge fear for public speaking but as Mr. Benson said fear is a thing of the mind, I am ready to face my demons and with God, my family, all what I learnt at the academy; I know that I will overcome all my fears and one day I will be a great positive public speaker.
I am really grateful to God for all the wonderful people I met at the academy. I want to thank the organizers again. I pray that God meets you all at your points of need. I love you all, may God bless all the positive impact leaders. Thank you.
I.L.C………. setting leadership standards.Aribisala Funmi,
Good evening, hmmm where do I start from, ok oge calm down and just start lol! i arrived ILA with honestly no exceptions don’t know why but I just left my mind open and as God would have it before the academy, my president complained that I was not living up to my potentials and the lackadaisical attitude of excos then I had an encounter with ILA.
ILA reconstructed my mind set to see the bigger picture and always. Now on a very normal day I don’t wear heels but wooow ILA made me do that for 3 straight days and yes my feet got swollen but I enjoyed it, it made me see myself as presentable, taught me carriage, how to market me and sell me without stress .i was pushed to give public speak P.S I Love to talk which did not show but enjoyed the opportunity. Now back to the real world ILA helped my thinking in the sense that when I think I am focused what I can do to change the world starting from the smallest thing, I even now raise a topic among friends and try to hear the intellectual side of my friends and people @large. Also when I came to ILA and I was asked what I wanted I said ”to update my software” ,honestly it was updated with lot of information like a deeper understanding about the club and it honestly helped us bond especially excos from chapter. We now have a better relationship more diligence in duties” asin” it awoken our spirits and honestly things are moving to greater heights.
Furthermore it gave me hope for the future, made me believe in my mother land and stand strong to it till death. Learnt to take up responsibility for every member and most importantly remember I am mother of my club. I honesty never taught that I could deliver but right now I am working and seeing results and that has really encouraged me to do more. ILA was urgently needed because I was already giving up on me and as well as the society but now I try to be change I want to be by showing it. For example I can’t leave a used wrapper on the floor I have to either pick it or if it’s mine look around for a trash can or put it in my bag till I get home, that’s impact working on me. All I am trying to say in summary is impact has made me conscious of my actions how it’s taken, when it’s taken and the impact it’s left .it has increased my yearning passion for change especially the mentality of our youth and that impact port Harcourt is already working on that .
In conclusion, I want to thank ILA and IYWLI for their passion because without it there would have been no direction and focus to achieve a better Nigeria through young passionate change driven youth.Chimebele Lucy,
